Trim Levels (Exterior)

The RAV4 models start with the LE which has 17-inch steel wheels, rear privacy glass and LED headlights. It also gets low-profile roof rails. The XLE upgrades to 17-inch alloy wheels, it adds fog lights, and it comes with heated side mirrors and automatic LED headlights. Stepping up to the XLE Premium gets you a raised suspension, 19-inch wheels, and a power liftgate. The Adventure trim stands out from the other models with its more aggressive exterior styling, 19-inch alloy wheels, fender flares, and the addition taller roof-rails. Choose the Limited to add chrome exterior trim to the XLE Premium.

Engine (Power)

The RAV4 gets a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. It comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive with the option for all-wheel drive. The hybrid version of the RAV4 also gets a 2.5-liter four-cylinder which works alongside two electric motors.

Performance

The combination of the four-cylinder engine and the smooth-shifting 8-speed provides the RAV4 with plenty of power, both off the line and once you hit cruising speed. The transmission upshifts eagerly to help with fuel economy, and the suspension smooths out the road surface while still creating a fun driving experience. Drivers who want to tow should choose the Adventure model which can handle up to 3,500 pounds, while the regular RAV4s can tow up to 1,500 pounds.

Interior

This compact crossover can comfortably sit up to five passengers with plenty of head and legroom for everyone. The upgrades to the 2019 model add to the quality of the RAV4, giving it a cleaner and sleeker look than before. You'll find soft-touch materials throughout, and there are 37.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats. Some available upgrades as you move up the trims include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and you can also get heated and ventilated front seats. The technology equipment starts with a 7-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Siri Eyes Free, a USB port, the Entune infotainment system, and Bluetooth. The Limited adds an 8-inch touch screen and an integrated navigation system. Available additional technology includes four extra USB ports, satellite radio, and an upgraded 11-speaker JBL stereo.

Safety Features

The 2019 RAV4 comes with the new Safety Sense 2.0 suite of safety equipment. In addition to the adaptive cruise control, pre-collision system, pedestrian detection, and lane departure warning with steering assist, this updated suite includes daytime cyclist detection, road sign assist, and a lane tracing assist system. All the RAV4 models also come with a rearview camera, and you can add additional safety features as options, including a 360-degree surround view camera and a parking sensor system that includes automatic braking.
