2019 Toyota Yaris
The Yaris is Toyota's subcompact sedan. It sits on the Mazda2 platform and is a sporty, stylish, and efficient small car for commuters, students, and more. The 2019 model has a new look for the front grille design with a familiar looking honeycomb insert, and it has some updates to the rear end. Here is a look at the 2019 Toyota Yaris.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The Yaris sedan now comes in three different trim levels. The L is the entry-level trim and comes with 15-inch steel wheels and power accessories. Step up to the LE, and you'll get 16-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, heated side door mirrors, fog lights. This trim also adds keyless entry and LED turn signals. Both the L and LE also have halogen headlights. The XLE tops off the Yaris trims with LED headlights, automatic rain-sensing windshield wipers, and automatic headlights.
Engine (Power)
All three Yaris models come with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that gets 106 horsepower and 103 pound-feet of torque. The 2019 L and LE models come standard with a six-speed manual transmission with the option for a six-speed automatic, or you can bump up to the XLE where the automatic comes standard.
Performance
The Yaris is a fun little car to drive. Since it is small, it doesn't have a whole lot of weight, and the 1.5 -liter engine gives it plenty of power. The available automatic transmission works well with the engine, but if you want to have a more engaging drive, the manual is easy to use, and it helps to get a little more zing out of the engine.
Bumping up to the XLE will get you two drive modes so you can choose between Normal and Sport depending on the road and the conditions. The compact size of the Yaris makes it easy to drive even on busy city streets, and it will fit in almost any parking spot.
Interior
The Yaris sedan's cabin has room for up to five people with supportive seats up front and a comfortable back seat for smaller passengers. Most of the surfaces have soft-touch materials, and all the controls feature an easy-to-use layout. Cloth upholstery comes standard in the L and LE, with leatherette on the seats in the XLE. This higher-end trim also gets a leather-wrapped steering wheel. In the back, there is a 13.5-cubic foot trunk and rear seats with a 60/40 split that allows you to configure the storage space.
You'll find a 7-inch center screen up on top of the dash that responds to touch when the car comes to a stop. Bluetooth, two USB ports, and an auxiliary audio jack come in all the Yaris models, along with satellite radio and a six-speaker stereo.
Safety Features
All the Yaris models come standard with a rearview camera and a low-speed pre-collision system. This system works at speeds up to 18 miles per hour and scans the road to detect potential trouble. It will alert the driver, and if a crash seems imminent, the system will activate the brakes to stop the car.
