Toyota RAV4 Safety Review: Performance Handling

The Toyota RAV4 has a setting for nearly every driving condition thanks to its standard Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) on its All-Wheel Drive (AWD) gas models. When drivers are faced with weather conditions or tough terrains, they can select the corresponding driving mode. The four modes include:

• Normal
• Mud and Sand
• Rock and Dirt
• Snow

That way, drivers can adjust their handling to match different road surfaces. For ultimate control, check out the available Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD with Rear Driveline Disconnect. This system enhances your vehicle’s responsiveness by distributing up to 50% of your engine power to the rear and even more to whichever tire that needs it the most.

The Rear Driveline Disconnect feature even helps improve fuel consumptions by determining when to stop sending the extra power. This system is great for conquering steep inclines or when you need some focused energy during hazardous weather.

The Toyota RAV4 also features a Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform that creates a wider, more stable stance that improves control, while maintaining a smooth, reliable drive. The design also allows for a wider interior, meaning a better view of the road ahead.

Toyota RAV4 Safety: Passenger Protection

The inside-cabin of the Toyota RAV4 has more than what meets the eye. Just below the surface is an 8-airbag system, including driver and front passenger Advanced Airbag System. The airbag system also contains seat-mounted airbags, driver’s knee airbag, and side curtain airbags.

To prevent minor bumper collisions, each RAV4 comes with a backup camera with projected path, to guide you through backing up your vehicle. The model comes standard with a Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS), which alerts you when you're experiencing low tire pressure.

In the case of an emergency, drivers can rely on their 1-year trial subscription to Safety Connect®. This system is made up of features that aide in emergent situations, including:

• Emergency assistance
• Stolen vehicle locator
• Roadside assistance
• Automatic collision notification

Toyota RAV4: Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0

Each model even comes with an all-encompassing safety suite called Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 (TSS 2.0). Here are some features included in this suite, along with their functions.

There is also the Star Safety System™. This is another safety system that provides six advanced safety features, including Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), and Smart Stop Technology® (SST).
